Does Amazon want to push further into your kitchen?

Amazon has filed to trademark the phrase “We do the prep. You be the chef” implying that the ecommerce titan is planning to push further into its customers’ kitchens. The company appears to be planning to “become a key player” in the meal-kit industry. As well as the key phrase, Amazon included description of the new service in its trademark filing, saying it would offer: “prepared food kits… ready for assembly as a meal.”

This is far from Amazon’s first foray into food. In June, the company made headlines worldwide when it purchased popular American organic grocery chain Whole Foods for $13.7 billion. It also launched Amazon Fresh in 2013, which lets customers order and pay online, then receive grocery deliveries. Currently, the service operates in 13 American cities, as well as London, Tokyo and Berlin.

Amazon’s hunger for the global food market has grown in recent months. In addition to the acquisition of Whole Foods, Amazon launched its Wickedly Prime line of snacks earlier this year with the tagline “Some eat to live. We live to eat.” The service currently offers soup, crisps, nuts, teas, and more. It does not, however, offer Amazon’s “Wagyu single cow burger”, which the company describes as “made from one source and available exclusive on Amazon Fresh.”
